Welcome to the King County Human Resources Division

A message from our director

I am proud to serve as Director of Human Resources for King County. Located on Puget Sound in Washington State, and covering 2,134 square miles, King County is nearly twice as large as the average county in the United States. With more than 1.8 million people, it is the 13th most populous county in the nation. King County provides regional services to all residents of the county. These include courts and related legal services, public transit, public health services, public safety, records and elections, property tax appraisals, wastewater treatment, regional parks and facilities, etc.

The essential services that King County employees provide have a real and lasting impact on our community – where we work and live. We strive to be the finest of public servants, doing our best to improve the quality of life in King County.

It is my privilege to lead the talented and dedicated staff in the King County human resources community. Day to day, we develop policies and programs related to recruitment and retention; employee development and training; labor relations and contract negotiation, implementation, and administration; benefits policies and programs; safety and claims; classification and compensation management; and HR technology leadership. Also, we provide quality advice and expert support on employment analysis, planning, consulting, and quality assurance.

We recognize the importance of effective management of our most important resources - the county workforce.

If you have any questions about the Human Resources Division or comments about our website, please let us know.

Sincerely,
Anita Whitfield
