Charges Filed in Federal Way Fatal Shooting: A charge of Murder in the First Degree has been filed against a 46-year-old Federal Way man who is accused of fatally shooting his estranged girlfriend on September 24 in Federal Way. The defendant, Rashied Mitchell, is also charged with Domestic Violence Felony Violation of a Court Order and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm in the First Degree. The defendant allegedly shot the victim, Tabitha Apling, 33, in the presence of their two minor children and then turned the gun on himself in an attempted suicide. Sentencing Rescheduled in Bellevue Vehicular Homicide: Sentencing has been continued from September 30 to October 28 at 1:30 p.m. for a 39-year-old Bellevue man who was convicted in a drunk-driving crash that killed his girlfriend in Bellevue on November 11, 2015. The defendant, Robert T. Jackson, was convicted last month on charges of Vehicular Homicide and Felony Hit and Run. Jackson was under the influence of alcohol and speeding when he lost control of his car and crashed into a utility box, killing Lindsey Hill, 35. The defendant was found guilty during a bench trial before Superior Court Judge Laura Inveen. The Court also found an aggravating circumstance of rapid recidivism since the current offense was committed a short time after the defendant was released from prison. Jackson faces a sentence of life in prison under the state’s “Three Strikes” law for repeat offenders. The case was handled by Senior Deputy Prosecutor Amy Freedheim and Deputy Prosecutor Aubony Burns.
